The page title is the most important descriptor for your site. Internet searchers will scan their search results for the most relevant page they are looking for and you want to be the one they choose.

Page titles are inserted into the html code (behind the scenes) on your site.

Descriptions

Your site description is displayed in the list of search results below your page title.

Example of site description:

The page description is important, it’s like your mini-elevator-speech to get searchers to click through to your site for more.

Your description needs to relevantly and accurately describe what you are about.

Descriptions need to be unique for every page on your site.

Sometimes Google will choose it’s own description from your page from an excerpt in your content so it’s important your pages are consistent with your description.
