Last night I saw “The Social Network,” the movie about the founding of Facebook. Little did I know it was an act of revenge on an ex-girlfriend that prompted Mark Zuckerberg to create the online platform in which 500 million people across the globe now keep socially connected.
Now I’m sure we have all had at least one negative business experience, customer, prospect or client. I’ve had them too. But the old adage is true that it’s what you do with it and what it makes of you that matter most. Did you cower and cry when you didn’t make the deal? Or did you rise higher, try harder and reach to new heights in your business?
The tagline to the movie is “you don’t get to 500 million friends without making a couple of enemies.” Victory is sweet for Mark Zuckerberg, who is now the world’s youngest billionaire. Sufficient retribution I would
say.
So the next time something doesn’t quite go your way, remember Facebook. Literally the underdog story of our lifetime; “guy gets dumped, and founds a company worth 25 billion.”
Go higher. If a nerd kid can do it, anyone can.
Sincerely,
Michelle Brubaker
